![]() The one downside to this ammo is lack of real world data like more established ammo such as Speer Gold Dot or the Federal HST line. They all shot well out of both my P365 and P365 XL, so I went with what was reasonably priced and readily available. I hear 125gr is the choice spot for 357 (which I have seen in Critical defense but not short barreled speer gold dot, all I can find is 135gr) and 135gr for 38special +p (which I havent seen any Critical defense in, just 110gr). For instance, like the Speer Gold Dot, the Winchester 95-grain PDX1, 95-grain Train and Defend, and 85-grain Silver Tip Super X loads all exhibited really good expansion, but subpar penetration (8.7-11 inches) in the Lucky gunner Test. I also use the 365 v crown 115 grain, I bought HST 147 and 150, Hornady Black 115 and 124, Speer gold dot 124, and Critical Defense in 124. 9mm Luger +P Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 124gr JHP 23611 load. These are far from the only good choices for. It runs reliably through my firearm and is usually priced very fairly allowing me to shoot the actual self defense load more frequently. Unpopular opinion but as long as you are running a conventionally accepted HP that your firearm feeds reliably, theres unlikely to be a significant difference in outcomes. Hornady Critical Defense Ammunition 115gr FTX 90250. įor me the Sig V-Crown mimics the Sig and federal FMJ loads with little variation of felt recoil and point of aim/point of impact. If you can handle recoil out of the 3.4' barrel, the +P variations of those three is good. As for Hornady's fallback option of the Critical Defense, I would carry their 124 XTP at std pressure over that, or 124 std pressure Gold Dot or HST. I migrated to the Sig ammo a couple years ago from Hornady for a couple of reasons, and it wasn’t because I shoot Sigs. Due to these inconsistencies with multiple production lots I've dropped Critical Duty from my EDC rotation. I was thinking I would’ve liked to have had real person insight years ago as to what ammo they use, why they chose it, and how it performs for them vs reading an article online or watching an video. I know this is a topic that’s been covered in length over the years but I wondered if it wouldn’t be beneficial for some of the new gun owners out there or anyone ammo curious.
